Meet the dynamic squad from Homeland Security who just clinched victory in our recent team competition! We chatted with one of the team members to spill the beans on their success and share some lighthearted moments.
Homeland Security does it again for the X year in a row! They won awards for fastest team and the get up and go award!
What Prompted You to Put a Team Together?
Well, it all started with two runners from our team who had previously participated in the Civil Servant Run. One of them had a lightbulb moment and suggested, "Hey, why don't we have our own Homeland Security team?" And the rest is history!
What's Unique About Your Team?
Diversity is our strength! Our team isn't just officers; it includes attorneys, office assistants, and spans various age groups. We celebrate each other's strengths and bring a unique blend of skills to our efforts.
Do Any of You Train Together?
Some officers hit the pavement or trails together, while others prefer solo runs. But here's the kicker—two of our officers, M. Vliet and N. Figueroa, have conquered marathons in iconic cities like New York, Chicago, and Boston!
Any Funny Stories from Your Experiences Together?
Picture this: one of our officers engaged in a fierce 10k battle with a determined adversary—a runner and her dachshund. Spoiler alert: the dachshund emerged victorious in this epic showdown!
Any Interesting "Behind-the-Scenes" Tidbits?
One of our assistants went the extra mile (literally, over an hour's drive!) to compete in the 5k, adorned in a fabulous tutu. Extra kudos because she's retiring from service in December.
What's Your Favorite Part of Running The Florida Run Events?
Winning. Short and sweet, just like our victories!
